The first Disney movie that I remember watching was Aladdin (1992). I LOVED how Robin Williams played the Genie! I probably drove my mom crazy quoting lines from the movie. Some of my favorite childhood movies were The Little Mermaid, Lion King, Snow White, Cinderella, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, and Lady and the Tramp. I must have worn the tape out of those old VHS cassettes. I’ll bet my mother was happy when the DVD format was released. Goodness knows that I was; it meant less time wasted on rewinding.
Because I grew up watching Disney Movies, I knew that was something that I wanted to share with my daughter and son. Unfortunately, with prices of everything rising, the DVDs are often far to expensive for me, even if I get lucky enough to find them second-hand. We received a flier in the mail a few months back with an offer to get Disney Movies at a steep discount by joining the Disney Movie Club. We read through all of the paperwork included in the letter along with some online resources and decided that it was worth a try! We went ahead and signed up for the Disney Movie Club and received several DVD/BluRay combo packs for next to nothing! We are now the proud owners of A Bug’s Life, A Toy Story 1, 2, and 3, Cars, The Incredibles, The Lion King, The Princess Diaries 1 & 2, and several others. Although after the initial discount, the movies go back to regular price and you agree to purchase a specific number of them, we will probably continue with the club for a while because we are still coming out on top of the deal.
My daughter LOVES Lion King. I’d have to say that it is one of her all-time favorites. She’ll come up to me holding the DVD remote and say, “Watch Lions?” Who can say no to a question that cute? I think we’ve seen it at least 5 or 6 times in the past couple of weeks, which I suppose isn’t too bad, considering what the alternative could be (watching it 15 times per day would drive me up the wall!). Her favorite character is Simba, especially when he’s a cub. I guess kids tend to gravitate towards child characters. Just the other day after watching Lion King, my daughter came up to me and said, “Mommy?” When I replied, “Yes, Emma?”, she smiled at me and said, “Monkey’s uncle!” I cracked up laughing and so did she. It was hilarious!
You should really consider giving the Disney Movie Club a try!
